I am 45 years of age. I am a native of Fukien. My family is at No.45 Lye Choo 080, Ku Lang Su Island, Amoy. I have now been employed on board the S.S. "Hong Hwa" as compradore for one year, this ship is running between Amoy, Swatow, Singapore, Penang, Rangoon and Hongkong. I joined the ship at Singapore. This ship belongs to the Ho Hong Steamship Co. at No.61 Chu Lia Street, the Company is registered at Singapore. This Company has two other ships, one $.3. "Glenfallock" and one "Hong Peng". It is a Chinese Steamship Company. Lan Ping Cheung, shareholder of this S.S. Company is my elder sister's husband who recommended me to this Company. The other ship's Compradore is required to provide $5000.00 as security but I do not as I am recommended. I am in charge of 52 Chinese employees in this ship, the fireman, sailors and quartermasters are under the European Officers. 51 of my men are Fukienese and one (carpenter) is Cantonese. Lam Taze Tat, a Chinese clerk, a native of Fukien, who has been employed on board the S.S. "Hong Hwa" for about 30 years, is on leave on this trip as he is sick. The ship left Singapore at about 20.00 hours on the 17th December, 1924, with about 280 Chinese deck passengers, including 8 women, 8 children end two Indians, no cabin, 1st or 2nd class passengers. They all booked their passages at Singapore either at the Company's Office or from the Boarding houses. My cabin is in the 1st class saloon aft main deck, there are nine cabins but no passengers. There are two doors which were locked and the keys were kept by the cabin boy before the ship sailed. At about 08.00 hours on the 13th January, 1925, I was sitting by myself in my cabin (No.2 cebin) I heard somebody breaking the door of the saloon. I then came out and saw 3 men holding a revolver each, rushing into the saloon. I then hid myself in the bath room, one of them shouted to me that if I did not come out, I will kill you; I came out at once. He then pushed me into the tween deck with all the other passengers, 5 or 6 other pirates armed with
